Actually, I recently discovered the marriage records of August and Rosalie Kroll Schmidt in Lutheran church records in a village near Wongrovitz, Posen, Prussia. It turns out his name was Friedrich August Schmidt born in 1828. The birthdate I believe rules out your Friedrich Schmidt as his father as he would have been 13 on his son's birthday. The similiarity of the names makes for a possible family connection. Still looking hopefully on someone coming forward about what happen to Emil Schmidt in the period 1890-1892. There was a smallpox epidemic at that time and may be the cause, but I'm looking for some type of written record of his demise. Thanks for your information, I will keep it in mind as I find August's siblings in Prussia. They might have been brothers.
