Donald,
According to the History of Fayette County TX, your August Schmidt was the son of Friederich Schmidt 1815-1880, who migrated from Purssia. He and his wife Marie Elise Wunderlich and 6 children migrated to the US in 1852. I'm sorry there isn't anything listed for your Emil, or much on his father but his grandfather has quite a bit of information, as does a brother of Augusts. Hope this helps.
