I'm seeking information/leads on Thomas MAXWELL (b. ~1798 KY - d. ?? presumably TX).
The 1850 U.S. Census for Fayette Co., TX provides the following info:
Head of Household: Thomas (52 KY).
Wife: Elizabeth (46 GA).
Children: William (18 AL), Amanda (16 AL), James (12 TX), Robert (10 TX).
The 1860 U.S. Census for Colorado Co., TX provides the following information:
John PRUDE (age 31 AL).
Wife: Amanda J. (25 AL).
Children: C. G. (6 TX), John C. (4 TX), William (6mo TX). Also in household: Robert G. MAXWELL (17 TX).
Amanda MAXWELL married John PRUDE in Fayette Co. on 26 Nov 1851. But I can find scant information on her father or mother.
I have a record that a Thomas MAXWELL married an Elizabeth LOVELADY in Jefferson Co., AL (8 May 1819) and another that married an Elizabeth McGEE in Tuscaloosa Co., AL (16 Dec 1828). No gaurantees that either of these records are even relevant.
Given the information from the 1850 census, I prsume that Thomas MAXWELL arrived in Texas between 1834 and 1838 (during that awkward period when Texas was seperating itself from Mexico and trying to be its own country.)
I have found a record showing a Thomas MAXWELL serving during the Battle of San Jacinto in 1836 and presumably the same Thomas MAXWELL listed in the Pension rolls. The question is this the same Thomas MAXWELL found in Fayette Co. in 1850?
The second question - does anyone have any information regarding the Thomas MAXWELL listed in the Fayette Co., TX census from 1850 (the ancestor in which I am interested)?
