Hi Harold, I just discovered that your post of 1-1-02 mentions a couple of ancestors in my Petter line. One of my father's brothers, (Anton T. Petter) married Alma Malek, daughter of John Malek Jr., son of John Malek Sr. and Agnes Chovanek. I did not know where John Malek Sr. and Agnes Chovanek were from, but it seems that we are talking about the same individuals. My John Malek, Jr. and his wife, Johanna Mach were from Fayetteville, TX, and ended up in El Campo, Texas, according to my Aunt Alma, who still lives in El Campo.
So I guess that makes us cousin material of some kind or another, or at least of the button-hole variety (through your marriage in other words. : ) That means my second cousin, Ray Bacak, with whom you communicated today, is also kin to you! I live in Houston, TX and Ray lives in Moulton, TX. Where do you live?
Are you aware of Dr. Josef Simicek's latest book entitled, THE PILGRIMS FOR HOPE, Vol. 2? I just checked my copy of it and found that it has several text pages covering the Konstantin Chovanek descendants of Trojanovice. It also has my and Ray's Petter (Petr) and Bacak lines, as well as many other emigrant ancestors of Frenstat and Trojanovice. If you wish, I can give you the address of Dr. Simicek should you decide to order a copy.
I haven't looked at the Malek web site you listed yet. That's where I'm headed right now. If you learn of the date that Rick Steve's tour through Trojanovice is aired in Houston, TX, would you be kind enough to let Ray and me know? I couldn't find a sceduled date (the days, but not the month) on Steve's web site. Thanks.
Laura ("Lolly") Petter Pilgrim
