Rev James Lyle

My Great, greatgrandfather was Rev James Lyle. He was susposedly the leader of a colony that came from Alabama and settled near the present town of Marlin in Falls county.
I have been told that he was killed by a commanche Indian Nov 13 1840. I have also been told he was killled in an argument with someone in his colony.

Does anyone in the area have any information, about the colony or Rev Lyle?
