Hello, this is information from my husbands grandfather,William Johnson Powell,Sr. born 23 Oct. 1864 Garden Valley, Smith Co.,TX In an interview on 25 Dec. 1956 he related the following:

" My Pa was Thomas David Powell, he was born in Montgomery Co. AL. My ma was Liza Jane Stefer." ( Eliza Jane Steifer.Re Smith Co TX marriage license. Liza's father was P.H.Steifer 11 or Stiefer.)

" Pa's brother "Lige" Powell was a Baptist minister in Waco,TX when he died there."

" My grandpa came from AL to TX. He died in Marlin,TX and was buried there."

" Ma lost two brothers in the Civil War.Pa had two brothers in the Civil War, and they made it home."( Confederate soldiers. Thomas D. Powell was also in the Civil War, W.J.Powell was a "furlough baby".)

We don't know for a fact what W.J.Powell's grandfather's first name was, or when he died. On the Internet, some think it was James G. Powell of GA, and some of James G.'s children were born in AL, and James G. Powell did die in Falls Co TX, according to the same internet source. They couldn't find why James G.Powell was in Falls Co TX. I suggested to them that it was possible James had gone to see his son,"Lige".

Can anyone relate any of this information to their Powell family?
