HILDEBRAND (Hilterbrand)/CARPENTER/CROSS

My step-grandmother was Ethel HILDEBRAND (b. abt 1884) m. Myrtle D. CROSS (abt 1935). I have found her on the 1910 Erath Co. Census at age 16 with her parents, Simon A. HILTERBRAND(sic)(52)and Ida(?)(44?)and a sister, Lila M.(?)(14). Next door is Simmie HILTERBRAND (24) and wife, Perdilia(?)(17). [I can remember Uncle Sim (Simmie) from when I was a child (early/mid 1940's), but his wife at that time was Aunt Margie.] Nearby was a Leland(?) HILTERBRAND (22), wife Ida (17) and child Cleo (4/12). Also nearby was their married daughter, Ada (26) with her husband, James W. CARPENTER (31) and children, Lena (9), Ernest (8) and Delbert (1/12?).
[NOTE: The (?) denotes that the writing was not clear on the census and this information is the best I can decipher.]
I know that in the 40/50's one of Ada's children owned a dairy near Stephenville. Acording to family stories, Ethel (before marrying Myrtle) was an "old-maid school teacher" at a one-room school near Aspermont, Tx. She and Myrtle at some time moved back to Stephenville where they lived for many years on the 6+6 Ranch owned by Henry CLARK near Stephenville. Mr. CLARK, in the early 1940's was the mayor of Stephenville. Ada CARPENTER and her mother were both widows in the 1940's and lived together very near to Ethel and Myrtle.

Any information on the HILDEBRAND/HILTERBRAND family will be greatly appreciated.
