Hungarian Families in late 1800's in Alma, Ellis Co., TX

My grandfather Louis or(Lewis) Szabo settled near the old town of Alma, TX in about 1880.

His first wife Kate is buried in the old Alma Cemetery there. I have no information of Kate's maiden name or her cause of death. I found her stone and all it says is Kate, wife of Lewis Szabo. Family stories tell that she died there, and that she may have died in childbirth along with the baby. I have no idea when she married or where. I do have a very small photo of her.

There were other Hungarians in the area. There is a Toth Road near the cemetery which is a Hungarian name also.

I am wondering who could help me with the history of the Hungarian settlers in this area. I am curious to know why they settled there, and what attracted them to the area.

Also, is anyone else researching a Hungarian family in this county of Ellis?

I would love to communicate with anyone out there searching for these roots.

With regards, Frances (Szabo) Shay
