I wasn't able to find his death or obituary in Denton County, however, I did find a Kentucky obituary at the Leary McGinnis Family Tree,

The Adair County News, Columbia, KY, May 8 1907

Mr. John Nell Killed in Cyclone

On April the 27th, a severe cyclone swept over a part of Texas. The town of Denning was almost swept from the earth and several lives were lost. Mr. John Nell, a brother of Mr. George Nell, of this city, was in the town when the cyclone struck it and lost his life. Mr. Nell's home was in the country, but he happened to be in the fatal spot within the path of the cyclone. Its path did not reach his home, so the rest of his family was unhurt.

Mr. Nell was 73 years of age, was born and reared in this town. In 1858 he married Miss Bettie Matthews of Campbellsville, and in 1860 removed to Johnson County, Missouri. After a few years spent in Mo., he removed to Texas where he resided until his death.

The deceased is survived by his wife and four children, two sons and two daughters, all grown. The intelligence of this death, the manner in which it occurred was a sad message to his brother, kindred and friends in this, his old home.

Most larger libraries provide free access to The interesting thing is that Denning is located in San Augustine Co., TX.
