Kenneth,

I checked the Death Vital Records for Jefferson A. Downs. D. 6-14-174 Moore County. The SS Death Index shows the date of birth to be. 10 Nov 1896, d. June 1974 in Dumas, Moore County, Tx.

The birth index shows two children born to a Virgie Smart and Jefferson Augustus Downs:

Glenn Vernon Downs 3-22-1935 Hemphill
Shirley Jean Downs 3-1-1937 Hemphill

There is a Glenn V. Downs living in McLean, Texas. 806-779-2296.

You might try the ancestry.com site. I found your Absalom Downs, who was married to Mary A. Lott. One child listed, James Arthur Downs, who married Perlina Paralee Billington. Their son, Reuben Jason Downs, m. Olive Maurine (Ollie) Cochran. Their daughter Glenda Bernett Downs (still living) m. John Albert Gregory. Their daughter LaJohna Glendene Gregory m. Phillip Hood. Info on this was provided by cmooresr@swbell.net.

There was also a Jefferson Augustus Downs listed there who was married to a Jewel Smith. The name doesn't match with the name from the birth index; it is possible of course that Jefferson remarried for some reason, or that this is a totally different Jefferson.

If this isn't on the right track, then could you provide some dates that I or others could use to help you with your search? Oh, and the Absalom Downs that was listed was born in North Carolina and died in Texas.

I hope something from this helps.

Teresa
