W. W. Thomas did not die in the Main Hotel fire:

"W. W. Thomas, employed in the editorial department of the Dallas Saturday Night, reported among the missing, following the destruction of the Main Hotel Friday night, is living and in good health, it was learned yesterday afternoon. Mr. Thomas who did not know that he was 'missing' until he saw an announcement to this effect in an afternoon paper yesterday, immediately notified his sister in Fort Worth and his employer, Walter A. Stevens."

It appears that there was a great deal of confusion over the number and identity of the fire victims.

Hope this is of some help.
