My grandparents lived and died in Dallas Co.Tx. I have just found a marriage certificate with their names on it.
I have seen other similar pieces of paper used for a certficate about the same time frame but need opinions and advice.
This certificate is an elaborate thick piece of paper, with embossed roses, scroll work, etc.. and has the names of my grandparents and a date of marriage with a signature that has been torn and is hard to read.
The record reads: This certifies that J.W. Arthur of Dallas,Tx. and Maude Dorsey of Dallas,Tx. were by me United in Mariage according to the ordinance of God and the laws of the State of Texas on the sixth day of July in the year of our Lord 1911. Signed: John Striet (Stveit, Strcit, or Stvcit??) It is handwrittenn by John S. with an ink pen.
Does anyone have any research on such a person as John S.?
and, could this actually be an official certificate or should I now try to find the records in the Dallas,Tx. offices? Thanks. C. Jones
