See former slave Allen Manning's account of Rev Wm Manning and family as they move from Shubuta, MS to Central Texas during the Civil War. The account can be found in the book "Lay My Burden Down." There are other sources of info in Shubuta and Meridian, MS: the Baptist church Manning helped found still exists, local historians have published works, as well.
