I checked the marriages in Coryell co TX and I didn't find anything.

I also looked through deeds to see if there might be something there. I found a C.M. Thornton and wife, Matilda selling 140 acres 14 mi S and W of Gatesville to B.F. Graham for $320 on Apr 4, 1878. I found another entry for C.M. Thornton and wife Matilda selling 20 acres 14 mi S and W of Gatesville to C.B. Graham for $50 on Nov 6, 1878. This land was part of the C.M. Thornton pre-emption survey.

The only marriage record I found was for Mrs. M.E. Thornton to Franklin Smith Oct 17, 1880.

I also looked to see if I could find a cemetery record for C.M. Thornton but didn't find him.

I know this doesn't really answer your question but I hope it might help a bit.

Best of luck in your search,
Ginger
