Along with other families and relatives William Kelly was granted 640 acres of land in Coryell in 1855. Some of the pioneers came later. Most from Dewitt and Lavacca Counties.(Some of the Kelly's that were thought not to be related were in fact Uncles,Aunts,etc..)
His mother(Elmira) remarried twice in Dewitt after the death of each of her husbands.Brothers and sisters were as follows John Kelly 1835-1874, William(himself) 1837-1913,Leonard 1839-1875,Sarah 1840-1852,Napolean(Uncle Bud)1841-1906,Oliver Jones 1848-1860 or 61,Laura Ann 1851-?,John Chambliss 1855-?, William Chambliss 1856-? Most of these brothers and sisters are buried in the Kelly and the Wood Cemetaries. Uncle Bud was buried in Gatesville Cemetary.
William Kelly married MaryAnn Elizabeth McCarty on May 24th 1857 in her Fathers home. Daniel McCarty a blacksmith in Gatesville. They had 12 children not 11. This is as follows: Mary Kelly 1858-1861 <(This grave marked only by stones)Daniel 1861-1881,William 1863-1952,Mary Cathrine or Caroline aka (Aunt Dutch)186?-? < In Weaver File:(Some point during this time MaryAnn suffered miscarriage and William was gone. Then came Thomas 1868-1880,Hetty 1868-1911,Mattie 1871-1900,David Reece (Uncle Dave)1873-1958, Alice 1875-1878,(Twins)Samuel 1878-1879,Sarah 1878-1931,Lillie 1880-1900 The William Kelly Cemetary is located across from the family homestead in Jonesboro. It has 28 graves in it.There are 7 graves that are only marked with large stones, showing head to foot. The first buried was first born Mary and Half brother Oliver. Have lots more history. My Grandfather Virgel Isaac Kelly was William Kelly's grandson. He left us with some wonderful things on the Family history. I think he would like them to be dedicated to Little Nell.
