Sgt. WILLIAM JENNINGS SPRAGGINS, a former Wellington man who went through two major battles and one beachhead in the Pacific without being wounded, was killed in a traffic accident in Amarillo Tuesday night, Feb. 27. He was 38 years old. Sgt. Spraggins had served for three years with the Army Engineers and recently re-enlisted for an additional three years. He was up on a furlough at the time of his death and was visiting a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. E. W. WILLIAMS. Funeral services were held in Wellington and burial was in the cemetery here. (description of his military service…). He lived in Wellington for about 10 years, operating a wrecking yard with his father, the late H. P. SPRAGGINS. He left here about 8 or 9 years ago. His four children have been making their home here. Sgt. Spraggins was born in Cooke County near Gainesville on October 20, 1908. Funeral services were held from the First Baptist Church in Wellington Sunday afternoon, March 3, with Rev. HENRY R. KINKEADE, pastor, in charge. A group representing the American Legion Post attended the services in a body… Sgt. Spraggins is survived by four children, ALMA RUTH SPRAGGINS, age 16; BILL SPRAGGINS Jr. age 14, LA VERNE SPRAGGINS, age 11, and JAMES SPRAGGINS, age 9. Other survivors are a sister and brother MRS. RUTH W. DOUGHERTY of Decatur, Georgia, and C. E. SPRAGGINS of Sedring, Florida.

Fresno, Ca., Man Visits Kin Here
A former Wellington man, BILL SPRAGGINS of Fesno, CA., visited last week with relatives here, SAM HOLLINGSWORTH, Mr. and Mrs. FRANK IVY and Mrs. DELMA JESSE. Spraggins left Wellington in 1949 to begin an Army career that last 12 years. He served in Korea, Japan, Germany, and France and a number of places in the U. S. Spraggins is a general building contractor at Fresno, specializing in commercial and home construction.
