Early Settlers of Edith & Friendship

My grandfather I. C. Page and his wife, Mina Monroe Page, first came to Coke County from Hill County, TX on 24 December 1890 and settled on land in the Edith Community near Paint Creek. Due do the the lack of rain they returned to Hill Co. in 1891 and did not return to Coke County until abt. 1903. I. C. was a farmer. I. C. and Mina Page's Children are: Martha Carolina (Mattie) b. 04 March 1892 Hill Co. m. Wade Austin Ackelson; Rolla Livingston b. 11 July 1894 Hill Co. m. Nancy Elizabeth (Bettie) Winston Snyder; Phillip Monroe b. 16 August 1897 Hill Co. m. Effie Arizona Robertson; Mary Era b. 15 December 1899 Hill Co. m. 1. Bertie T. (Bum) Thompson 2. Luther E. Burton; Zora Lee b. 01 March 1902 Hill Co. m Sammy Walker Good; Lillie Mae b. 28 November 1904 Coke Co. m. William Burt Burton; Dona Lula b. 03 January 1907 Coke Co. m. Cecil Wilmer Sparks; and Eula Bertha (Berta) b. 07 September 1912 Coke Co. m. Frank Elmer Modgling. My parents were Phillip and Effie Page. They lived in the Edith Community until 1945 when they moved to Odessa, TX. Effie's parents were James Brantley Robertson and Arizona Cain. James Robertson came to the Friendship Communty of Coke County in 1901 along with his father, John (Jack) Sebial Robertson, from Jack County, Texas. Arizona Cain's parents were John Jahue Cain and Mary Jane Simmons. James and Arizona were married 03 December 1903 in Coke County, Texas. All of the above listed family member are buried at the Paint Creek Cemetery except Martha C. (Mattie) Page and her husband Wade Ackelson who are buried in the Hillcrest Memerial Cemetery in Las Cruces, NM
