The state of Illinois has lots of good stuff on their own site. --http://genforum.genealogy.com/tx/childress/messages/118.html -- I found the marriage of one of my ancestors in 1837 on their state wide marriage index.

They have death index Pre 1916, and 1916-1950. I don't know if those dates help, but take a look, see if there is anything else on there that might help you.
