Drucilla,

Many apologies for the delay in my reply. You know how it gets toward the end of the year!

Really, the only information I have about my Moses Dickey is from Mae Gean Pettit in her book "Families & Kin of Elias Stockton, Moses Dickey and James Upchurch, Cherokee County Texas Pioneers":

"Moses D. Dickey, born about 1806 in North Carolina, died about 1870 in Cherokee County, Texas. In about 1833 he married Melvina D. Clark, born June 1819, in Tennessee, died between 1900 and 1910 in Cherokee County...Moses and Melvina came from Tennessee to San Augustine County, Texas, prior to December 1835."

Mae Gean does not have any information on a Nancy Ashburn in her book. My Moses would have been around 27 when he married Melvina and they went on to have 11 children. Nancy Ashburn could have been a first wife since 27 is older than you typically see a first marriage back then.

I have seen some online sources that say my Moses Dickey was a son of the Moses Dickey who married Susannah Ballard. I haven't done enough research to know if that's true or not.

What do you know of your husband's Dickeys?

Thanks,
bart
