John listed on the 1837, 1838, 1840 tax lists of Choctaw Co. MS. (Early Records of Choctaw County, Mississippi, 1835-1850, by Hazel C. Garrett and Louis Taunton, p 8, 13, 26)

In Feb 1840, John Banks sold James Hitt 160 acres in Twp 29 R 7 E and Twp 21 R & E in Choctaw Co. MS for $1000. (Choctaw Co. MS Deed Bk 1836-1868, p 86. LDS reel 904439)

John Banks was not listed in the Choctaw Co. MS census. He could be the John Banks in Randolph Co, AL. Or, he may be the Hugh Banks of 1840 Choctaw Co., MS.

In the 1841 state census one J. R. Banks listed as head of household. Males less than 21 (1), Females (0) (Early Records of Choctaw County, Mississippi, 1835-1850, by Hazel C. Garrett and Louis Taunton, p 129)

John was listed on the 1841, 1844 and 1846 tax lists of Choctaw Co. (Early Records of Choctaw County, Mississippi, 1835-1850, by Hazel C. Garrett and Louis Taunton, p 34, 44, 63, 75)

In Apr 1842, John Banks bought from the U.S. marshal land in Twp 21, R 7 E of Choctaw Co. MS for $.50. (Choctaw Co. MS Deed Bk 1836-1868, p 323. LDS reel 904439)
