Dennis,
Cherokee County is about 140-150 miles north of Houston just below Tyler, Texas. Rusk is the county seat but Jacksonville is the largest town and has a nice small library with a fairly good history of the county. I don't know the name of the library but you may be able to get some information from there or the Cherokee Genealogical Society.
I posted earlier to you that I had found William R. Fagg 1861-1931 and Mary M. Fagg 1863-1951 buried in Meadow Cemetery. The cemetery isn't far from Jacksonville so precinct #3 may be there. I couldn't find Susannah Mathis Carter Fagg in my cemetery books. Do you suppose she may have died on their way to Texas?
