Glad you found my posting helpful. I want to check further into George Montgomery/Somers. There were other members of our Montgomery family who came here from Mississippi; will compare notes. The only orphanage in this area during that time to my knowledge was a Confederate orphanage near the mouth of Goose Creek in eastern Harris County (now Baytown). I'll see if I can find something more on that, especially any rolls of names. I'm filing your e-mail in my file on the family, but am changing the tab to read SOMERS instead of SUMMERS. I figure a family member's spelling of the name is good enough for me! Good searching!!
