Looking for information on Dave a. McPHAIL and Mary Elizabeth ORME McCOY who married in Camp county July 24, 1867.
There were two Mary Elizabeth ORMES
in our line. The one that married Dave McPhail in Camp County is Eli H. McCoy's widow. Eli died a year and 8 days after their marriage from a wound and measles in the Confederate Hospital in Little Rock ARk. I've been trying to find out about her last marriage to McPhail.
Descendants to ME ORME MCCOY MCPHAIL and Eli McCoy still live on the homestead in Harrison County TX. My great greatgreat granmother was the other Mary Elizabeth ORMES. The one that married McCoy and McPhail was the sister to Andrew Jackson ORMES and sister-in-law to Mary Elizabeth WATSON ORMES (daughter of Elittle Hickerson WATSON of Harrison County). Andrew Jackson and his sister Mary Elizabeth came to Texas with their mother, Naoma HARRISON ORME and her second husband NELSON EDWARDS, who was a schoolmaster in Marion County TX c 1858-1862.
Andrew Jackson ORMES and Mary Elizabeth ORME (McCoy/McPhail) are children of Naoma Harrison and Jeremiah Brisco ORME. Their father, Jeremiah, was born in KY c. 1819. Mother Naoma was born in NC.c.1819. The family was on the 1850 Pickens Cty Al census. They headed west between 1852 and 1854. Jeremiah Brisco died in or between Pickens Cty AL and Carroll Cty MS. Family oral history says he died while they were on the wagon train headed to Texas before Andrew Jackson was born. Andrew Jackson was born in Carroll Cty MS. There are records of Naoma's second marriage Dec. 20, 1855 to NELSON EDWARDS in Carroll Cty MS.
Naoma remained in Carroll County MS until early 1856, maybe a little longer. Schoolmaster Nelson Edwards and Naoma brought Mary Elizabeth (the oldest child) and her younger siblings to Marion County TX. c. 1851-1855. The first record we have of them in Harrison County is Mary Elizabeth's marriage to Eli McCoy in Ore City, TX in Feb. 1862. By the end of that year, Eli McCoy Jr. has been born. His dad, a horsetrainer and blackmith has been gone most of the year serving in the Confederate Army. Eli dies in the Confederate Hospital in Feb. 1863.
