Family lore says my ggrandfather was born in Brownsville. But I called the Cameron County registrar and they tell me they don't have records that go back that far.
Yet, when I call the state archives in Austin, they tell me the county has those records.
This is what I have on him:
Victor Ramirez born Brownsville, Texas 8 September 1876/ died13 October 1944 Los Angeles.
I have a bapismal record for him for 1876, across the border in Coahuila, Mexico.
So that muddies the picture. His parents, Mateo Ramirez and Maria Silvestra Romo, could have taken him to their hometown of Rancho Nuevo, Coahuila for his baptism, but I doubt it.
The National Archives has no record of their border crossing, or immigration status. Nothing at all.
There might be local family histories there in Brownsville that might hold the key for me.
You can see a pictue of my ggrandfather on my home page:
All assistance will ge greatly appreciated.
