Searh for John D. Vanwinkle

Am trying to find info on my maternal granfather, John D. Vanwinkle b. unkown, married in Coryell County, Texas 6/28/1914, Susie Elizabeth Highsmith. He died, according to family lore, in a fight after 1916 and is buried in Cottonwood Cemetery in Callahan County, Texas. They had one child, my mother, Mary Louisa Vanwinkle b. in Coryell County, Texas, 7/19/1916. That is all the info that I have. I can trace any other relative, but I can't get past John D. Vanwinkle, my maternal grandfather. I can use some help, no matter how small the info is. I've been tracing my family tree for 25 years but I always hit a dead end At John D. Vanwinkle.
