Has anyone else seen the big black ugly marble bench next to the State of Texas monument erected in 1936 for our ancestors at Indianola? It is sitting right beside the monument, maybe 6" away, sharing the space. I am down here this weekend and was absolutely speechless. Somebody might find it fitting for the Cains, but it is a desecration to the Indianola monument. Those 1936 monuments are very special, and were placed all over the state at very honored places, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Texas. On top of the black slab bench, in big gold letters, it says IN HONOR OF ROLAND AND VIRGINIA CAIN BY RUSSELL AND CHERRE CAIN SHARON SMALLEY MARK AND BARBARA KOLODZIEJ ALAN AND TERESA CAIN The slab is about 6" thick, and on the side says CAIN. They even extended the 1936 Monument's concrete footing on one side for their bench. Surely the Texas Historic Commission and the State of Texas are not aware of it. http://www.russellcain.com/newsite/office_portlavaca.php This is unbelievable. "Cherre serves as a board member to organizations across Texas: Texas Historical Commission for the Texas Independence Trail, President of the 17 county Texas Settlement Trail Region, Calhoun County Rural Rail District, and Calhoun County Museum Board and Texas Rural Development Commission. Cherre passionately promotes Economic Development and Heritage tourism for Calhoun County as she is board Chairman of Tourism for Port Lavaca - Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce. When asked her best talent, she stated "It has to be Networking people to projects nationwide". Cherre was named "Women of the YEAR 2000" for Calhoun County." If anyone wants a photo, please let me know.I took photos Saturday. Notify Administrator about this message?
