Early Caldwell County

I would appreciate general information about the early Anglo settlement of Caldwell County: was there a lead person?; was it a colony?; what geographic area did the settlers come from?; etc.

Also, I would appreciate information from anyone about Francis Berry who died at Lockhart, Caldwell County, November 21, 1852, at about 90 years of age. Francis Berry was born in Virginia about 1762; was taken prisoner in 1780 at Martin's Station in Kentucky by British and Indians; was held at Montreal, Canada, until the end of the RW and then returned to Kentucky; was married three times: Sarah Sharp, Nancy Berry (a cousin), and Nancy Oliver. He apparently also lived in Missouri before coming to Texas.

Any help will be appreciated.
