Where did the info about the murder come from? Was it a family story or what? If Jason Rushing did this, he sure got away with it, because he was in Byrd's Store, Brown Co. in 1880 and in Coleman Co. census in 1900!

I did see in the 1870 Coleman Co. census that the Pughs and the Rushings lived next door to each other.

Do you have the article that your grandmother wrote for the Coleman Co. history book? It does have the picture of George and Clarissa. It doesn't mention how George died.

I can't find anything on that Joe Henderson except he was born in GA, and parents as well. The 1880 census lists him as age 30, and Clarissa as age 30 as well, but she had to be 45 or 46. Maybe Joe worked for her before they married. Have you checked Coleman Co. for a marriage license?
