I'm live in a small town called Rising Star which is 9 miles from May, TX,but I grew up in May. In the old days people from here used to call May Maytown to annoy the people from there. The people from May called Rising Star Twinkle City. Anyway it is possible that it is the same place you're looking for. However, it isn't on highway 83, it is on highway 183 in central TX, 20 miles north of Brownwood.
