There are several volunteers listed on the RAOGK (Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness) site for Mecklenburg Co, NC. But most seem to offer services to take photos of headstones. You might try contacting some of them, that wouldn't cost you anything, and see if one of them would do a lookup for that obituary. http://www.raogk.org/faq-requesters.htm

If that doesn't work, on the Mecklenburg Co, NC GenWeb archived site some people have entered information from "old" newspapers and one of them might take on a lookup in a more current newspaper for you -- http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/mecklenburg/mecklenburgnews.html

There are a couple of professional researchers listed on the Mecklenburg Co, NC GenWeb site (different than the archived site). They are listed as members of the Association of Professional Genealogists. There will be a charge for their services, but if you're not satisfied you can contact the Association, they do monitor their members. I know because I'm a member, also.

Happy Hunting (^_^)
