Brazoria County, Texas, is the "birthplace" of Texas. Stephen F. Austin, the Father of Texas, lived and died in Brazoria County. Brazoria County has the location of the First Capitol of the Republic of Texas (a replica of the building stands near the City Administration buildings in West Columbia, Texas), maintained by the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. The area around West Columbia is rich in historical sites. You just have to visit to appreciate!
