Starting Sept. 30, 2014, Genealogy.com will be making a big change. GenForum message boards, Family Tree Maker homepages, and the most popular articles will be preserved in a read-only format, while several other features will no longer be available, including member subscriptions and the Shop.

The Texas State Archives has a card catalogue with names of the people who served in the Homeguard (also Minute Men) , Texas Rangers and The Confederacy. I believe, either free or for a small fee, you can call and they can tell you if there is an entry for your relative. Also, if you give the name of the relative, then perhaps someone can look it up while they are at the Archives.
