Norman,

You are right about the low water corssing. The story goes that two Adkison cousins (Mary and Della Arrington) were drowned in that creek when they drove their wagon into the water in 1895.

Another version says that they had been to town to buy material for a wedding one of them.

They are buried together in Riverside Cemetery in Iredell.
