Looking for information on Amasa White Childress, a widowed rancher who migrated from Tx. to Arizona abt. 1890-1892, with two grown sons; Wid & Johnnie Childress. Does anyone know when & where A. White Childress died, & whether he remarried in Az. & had more children? My children are descendants of his older brother, George L. B. Childress [1830-1877].

A. White Childress was the 12th of 14 children. His widowed father migrated from Choctaw Co., Ms. to Madison Co., Tx. abt. 1852. Levi Childress [1805-1879] & most of his children later settled in Hill Co., Tx., near the present site of Lake Whitney, abt. 1859/60. White Childress was listed in his father's household in the 1850 Census of Choctaw Co., Ms. & the 1860 Census of Hill Co., Tx.

The household of Malinda M. (Brown) & A. White Childress was listed in the 1870 & 1880 Census of Bosque Co., Tx. His home was a couple of miles SE of Kopperyl. His old homestead at the "Blue Hole" on the Brazos River is now underneath Lake Whitney.

In 1890-1892, after his wife's death in Bosque Co., Tx. in 1890, A. White Childress & his sons migrated to Graham Co., Az., where they established a cattle ranch. He was a Freemason in Tx., so he may have joined a Masonic Lodge in Az.

The last record I have of A. White Childress, he was listed as one of the surviving heirs of his sister, Elizabeth (Childress) Batson [1835-1912] of Hill Co., Tx., when her estate was finally settled in 1918.

Would love to hear from anyone who can fill in the gaps on the life of Amasa White Childress in Arizona.
