I wanted to let all you Day and Fountain family members know that the Bible of Thomas Clementh Day and Lucy Ann Fountain is in my keeping. It was handed down to me by my father, Walter Fountain Day, Jr., who received it from his father, Walter Fountain Day, son of Thomas Clementh Day.

The Bible is missing its front page and the first 42 pages of the Old Testament. However, the front page of the New Testament indicates that it was published in 1880 in New York by the American Bible Society. The Bible is in fragile condition and does not copy well. It is kept in a fire-proof safe. The family entries are as follows:

Mrs. M. M. Wheeless Borned Sep. 23, 1838 Died January 3, 1915

Yes, you counted 17 children. There was one more, the very first one, which died during the birth process. I don't know why the child wasn't entered in the Bible. I believe it was a boy. I do know that Lucy was told to never have any more children after the disaster with the first. She was too small.

T.C. and Lucy were married in Clarke County, AL. After Clemmie Herman Day was born, the family moved to Causbyville, Lauderdale Co, MS, where Walter, Ben (Thomas Benny), Dona (Caldonia), Charlie, Shug (Carlas), Roger, Clide, and Jim were born. Following Jim's birth, they moved to Kopperl, Bosque Co., TX, where they settled on a large farm outside of town a short walk from the Brazos River. Here they had the rest of the children.

Regarding the final entries:

John F. Day Sr. was John Franklin Day, son of John Day and Rebecca Taylor.

Mary B. Day was Mary Bishop Anderson, who was born in Wilcox Co, AL, to William Anderson and Elizabeth xxx (Yarborough?). William Anderson was the son of Jonathan Anderson and Mary Bishop.

Mrs. M.M. Wheeless was Margaret Melissa Creighton, born in Clarke Co, AL, to Hiram Creighton and Mary Thomas. Margaret Melissa married (1) William George Fountain in Clarke Co, AL, 16 Feb 1859; and (2) Henry T. Wheeless 13 Oct 1870. William George Fountain was born in abt 1822 in GA and died 22 Dec 1863 in Clarke Co, AL. He married (1) 20 Sep 1848 to Mary Elizabeth Allen and (2) Margaret Melissa Creighton.

I have additional information on this family. Many of them are buried in Kopperl Cemetery. I'll help you if I can.
