Billie,
I have located the site of the original San Marcos Primative Baptist church,as well as the cemetery that was donated beside it by Joseph Pierce. Here is the usgenweb site with pictures-http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/tx/cemph/gonzalesph.html
The land was sold to my Webb family. My g.grandmother was a member of San Marcos Primative Baptist Church. My grandfather told me that they held church picnic/reunions there in the 1920-30's. Thinking my g.grandfather purchased the land from the Nichols family. Will have to look through my files.

Have my g.grandmother's bulletin from the 100th Anniversary Celebration. History on back-
"The church was constituted April 30, 1853 by Elders George Daniels and R.W. Ellis, in the home of Elder Daniels, which was located on Smith Creek in Gonzales Co. The church was constituted with five members who were holding letters of dismission from other churches of the same faith and order. The names of theses members were: William Baker and wife, Vashti, Hannah Daniels, I.D.Owens and Sylvania Daniels.
At this meeting Elder Daniels presented a letter and joined them, and accepted the call, or care, as pastor of the organized church, and served them until 1862. Then a son of William Baker, J.M. Baker, having joined in 1856, and ordained to preach by the church in 1857, was called to serve them. He accepted the are of the church in 1862, and served the church until his death."
The location of the church was moved to what is known as "Highsmith". The land was donated by James Hisaw. think in 1860's but will need to check on that.
The Pierce family was in Monroe Co., Ms in 1850. They moved into Gonzales Co., in 1851.
Have a letter from a Daniels descendant. Do not think it mentions much if anything on the Nichols. Are you interested in that info?
Do you have a Baker conection? There is one in my Cage family, and seems to be one with the Daniel/Pierce of Gonzales Co.
The Luling library has many family files that have been place there by descendants. They are a wonderful source of infomation and the voluteers who work there are great. You can call or email.
I do not think they have any probate records on file. You can contact the Caldwell County Clerk's office in Lockhart.
Have you contacted Blanco County for copies of the probate?
That may tell you, but sometimes they just put neighbors or friends.
Robin
