My specific interest in the CAGE family of Blanco is:
Solomon Grundy Nichols b.1846 Guadalupe Co TX married Samantha Serena Mellinine Harrison (widow of John A. Newman and she had a daughter named Mary Catherine Newman).
Solomon Grundy Nichols and Serena Newman married about 1863 and they had two children... James Robert Nichols b.1864 and Ollie Ann Nichols b.1866.
Solomon Grundy Nichols died Dec 1867. Location and burial unknown but probably Blanco Co., TX.
After his death, widow Serena Nichols appears on the 1870 Blanco Co., TX census:

NICHOLS, Sarina, 28, fmr, 150, AL;
Cate, 10, f, TX;
James, 7, m, TX;
Ollie, 4, f, TX.
The next I find of this family is in the "Index to Probate Records for Blanco Co., TX".... here is that information.
Index to Probate Records for Blanco Co., TX 1876-1936: #47 Nichols, James R. and Ollie Ann ... Thad E. Cage, Gdn.... Vol A 6hearings... Vol.B 5hearings... minor heirs....
Since this is number 47, I assume it was 1876 or shortly after.
I live too far from Blanco County to be able to look at the actual records, so I am trying to find what connection to the NICHOLS widow and children there was to Thad E. Cage... since he was guardian of the children.
I can find only one marriage for Thad E. Cage... to Annie Durham.
I have not been able to find where the children were on the 1880 census. I assume some family member might have raised them, but so far I have not found them with anyone.
This is the Cage information I have:

CAGE, Benjamin, 65, TN VA VA;
Nancy, 47, wife, GA;
Thadeus, son, 22, s, TX TN GA;
GRIER, Eli, f-n-law, 70, GA Ire Ire;

Blanco Cemetery:
404 CAGE, Thad E., b.1857 d.1922
I noticed that Benjamin Cage's wife, Nancy was a Grier... I have found surname of Greer/Grier in two other marriage in my Nichols line.
If you have anything that you can share with me on these families, I would sure appreciate it.
