William Adkins/Joel Walker Winston/Joel Walker Adkins

Fellow Adkins family researchers, I'm still collecting lots of info on all Adkins of the areas given below.

A little over a year ago, I posted #3710 to Adkins fam genforum entitled: All of Adkins of Jackson Co, AL, with no response. In that post, I mentioned that I would also be interested in all Adkins of Madison Co, AL which borders on West edge of Jackson Co, AL, again with no response.

Lately, in the last week, I have found much more info about a Joel Walker Adkins who evidently had some connection to the Adkins of very early Madison Co, AL. I believe there is a strong possibility that these Adkins of Madison Co, AL have some ties to the Adkins of Jackson Co, AL.

Just the night before last, I looked in Adkins fam genforum, where I have posted many post already, for the name Joel. There were 62 hits (matches), but almost entirely referring to the living Joel Adkins (who has also posted several posts in genforum), and/or to Joel Adkins Sr & Jr of the Pittsylvania Co, VA & Floyd/Morgan Co.s, KY areas.

Since the name Joel Adkins is not all that common, I have been very surprised to find a Joel Adkins in many of the same places that I have already searched for Adkins in, and also surprised there are no references to any of these other Joel Adkins in any other post to genforum that I've found.

A chronilogical listing of these other JOEL Adkins's:

(1) JOEL Walker Adkins, Sr b 1814 TN: (Williamson Co?):

Family Search Ancestral File: JOEL W Adkins b abt 1814 TN, wife's name unknown b 1812 <AL>, JOEL W Adkins b abt 1834 AL, John D b abt 1838 AL & Lemuel D b abt 1845 TX.

1850 FC of Grimes Co, TX: p366A 51/56; ADKINS, J W 36 TN, J W, Jr. 16 AL, John D 12 AL, Lemuel D 5 TX, Emily M 34 AL & PARUM, G A 22 TN.

Note: There is a very good possiblity this Joel Adkins was actually named William Adkins at birth. Willaim either leagally changed his name, or he used Joel Walker as an alias, for reasons I will explain in a later post of info I've recently gathered about Joel Walker Adkins, Jr.

(2) JOEL Adkins b abt 1827 MO to Wm & Nancy (???):

Source: Family Search International Genealogical Index (IGI).

Note: I have no idea what source was used for this submission to the IGI, or what part of MO this Joel was born in. Although this Joel was reported as born near same time period as Joel Walker Adkins, Jr, and I think there is a very good possibility that Joel Walker Adkins, Sr was actually named William at birth, there probably was no connection between those two JOEL Adkins's. Probably just another strange coincidence.

(3) JOEL Walker Adkins, Jr b 1834 AL: (Madison/Jackson Co? or Franklin/Sumpter Co?)

Note: In the later post mentioned above, I will post much of the info & sources that I have found recently about this Joel Adkins. He was listed in 1860-1880 FCs of Grimes Co, TX, where he was evidently a Texas Ranger, and where he enlisted in the CSA army during Civil War. About 1889, he moved to Bee Co, TX where, probably another coincidence, the descendents of John ATKINS and Susan Renfro had moved from Cherokee Co, TX.

(4) JOEL Walker Adkins (Sr/Jr?) md 3/11/1856 inGrimes Co, TX to Marilda J Burleson:

Source: Family Search (IGI).

Note: I believe there is a good possibility that it was Jr who md Marilda, and that she, not Mary (A?) Elizabeth (Davis?), was the mother of John J b abt 1859 Grimes Co, TX.

(5) JOEL Adkins md 7/18/1879 in Jackson Co, AL to Izie Dora Hopkins:

Source: Family Search (IGI).

Note: This marriage did not have "no return" remark in marriage record, and, therefore, I have to assume that this marrige was actually preformed. I have not found any further reference to this JOEL Adkins, and it is too much for me to believe the following info to be another strange coincidence: Isadora Hopkins (Mrs Joel Adkins?) 21 AL AL TN was listed as md female servant of Daniel & Mary Jane Cameron in 1880 FC of Dist 99, Beat 3, Jackson Co, AL on p 36A. I have not found any further info about Isadora (Hopkins) Adkins either.

(6) JOEL M Adkins b 7/1/1896, Soc Sec card # issued in TX, d Apr 1974 Hill Co, TX: (see my posts in Hill Co, TX & Adkins/Childrey of Hill Co, TX in CSA):

Source: Family Search Social Security Death Index.

If you are interested in , or have info about, any of these other JOELs mentioned above, or about any Adkins of those areas I have referred to here, and/or in my other posts to genfroum, I hope you will share some of that info, or quetions, with the rest of us Adkins researchers. Although these JOELs are in same areas as ones in my other posts, I know of no direct connection, but I found all this info, it finally fit together, and I figured it was somebody's family. I hope it will be of help to some of you fellow Adkins family researchers.

More later,
