Dr. David Sayers

I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has traced the ancestry of Joseph Draper Sayers, of Bastrop Co., who became governor of Texas 1898. His father was Dr. David Sayers and his mother was Mary Peete. They were from Grenada Co, Miss. My family history says that my great-great grandmother Martha Ann Sayers (1817-1899) was a cousin, but I can't find how Dr. David Sayers connects back to Martha's father James Sayers (1778-1818) of Greene Co, GA. Thank you.
