I am descended from Ophelia E. Smoot Votaw Miller. She married J. J. (John Jona) Votaw Mar. 27, 1895 (Bastrop Co.; Vol. F, pg. 512). Son Walter (what it appears to be on 1900 Bastrop Co. census 1900; also it is said he was called Frank) b. July 1896; dau. Laura F. b. June 1898 and dau. Leola Victoria b. Apr. 7, 1900. Laura, called Fannie, married Reuben Riley Massey Aug. 15, 1917 (Bastrop Co.; Vol. L, pg. 187). In 1910 Leola (appears as Leora in census) is living with her grandparents, Frank and Fannie Smoot. I have found no further info. on Walter (Frank) and Leola.
Ophelia (misspelled Ovelia) married B. S. Miller Dec. 8, 1904 (Bastrop Co.; Vol. h, pg. 588). His actual name was Burtis (also found as Birtis;Bert) Samuel Miller. He and Ophelia had 3 children: Valcour Vermell Mar. 28, 1906; Granville Aug. 2, 1909; Addie Mae Marie Apr. 12, 1912 (my maternal grandmother). She died in Blanco, Tx. Oct. 31, 2005, she is buried in Blanco Cemetery.
I don't have alot on Granville's and Valcour's family. Addie, a.k.a. Missy, married George Allen LaFrance in 1930. Theirs was a tumultous marriage. They divorced, remarried in 1935 and divorced again 1943 or 1944. Their first child was Billy Joe, b.d. unknown but oral family history says he died of pneumonia at 7 mos. He is buried at Jones Cemetery in Hornsby Bend, Tx.; next was Lillian Jo b. Aug. 30, 1931; Marjorie Louise was b. Dec. 1, 1934; Gertie Beatrice (my mom) was b. Mar. 23, 1937; Bertis Vermell b. Apr. 11, 1939, died in infancy. Buried at Jones Cemetery in Hornsby Bend; Peggy Joyce b. Apr. 18, 1943.
After divorcing George (my grandpa)for the last time she married Dallas Jones in 1944, div.; James J. Thomas in 1947, div.; and Leo 'Shorty' Whitaker in 1948. She had children with Shorty: Homer B.Leo, Catherine (died in infancy) and John Wayne (stillborn).
