The Angelina County Genealogical Society will meet at 5 P.M. Monday, May 21, 2012 in the Community Meeting Room of Kurth Memorial Library, 706 Raguet Street, Lufkin, Texas 75904.

The program will be presented by ACGS member and Certified and Professional Genealogist Debbie Parker Wayne of Cushing. Her subject will Using the 1940 U. S. Census. The 1940 U. S. Census was released for public use on the Internet by the National Archives and Records Administration on April 2nd. The un-indexed 1940 Census is now available online.
Ellen Pyle, editor of the ACGS Spring and Fall newsletter is seeking articles and items of interest to area genealogists for inclusion in the spring newsletter Only people who have paid dues for 2012 will be sent the ACGS Spring newsletter either by e-mail or by regular mail the newsletter editor said.
ACGS dues for the calendar year are now past due, but are still being accepted throughout the year according to ACGS Treasurer Sharon Elliott. ACGS dues are S10.00 for individuals and $15.00 for two people at the same address.
The ACGS executive board will meet at 4 PM in the Community Meeting Room of Kurth Memorial Library prior to the regular society meeting and program. All executive board meetings are open to the society membership and all society meetings are open to the public. ACGS Vice-president Vivian Cates wil preside at both meetings in the absence of ACGS President Dickie Dixon.
Free individual genealogical research help is available on the 3rd Monday of each month (except January and December)from 1-4 p.m. in the Ora McMullen Genealogy Room, Kurth Memorial Library, 706 Raguet Street, Lufkin, Texas 75904, 1-936-630-0563, provided by members of the Angelina County Genealogical Society. Please call ahead to contact Cindy McMullen, genealogy department librarian, for further information. Calling ahead for an appointment is strongly advised to assure individual help from a society volunteer.
