Dan was married to my great aunt Margaret Wilkinson and came to Anderson County as a first settler. He signed the Texas Declaration of Statehood and started a private school at Mound Prairie. He was called affectionately "Major" although he failed at West Point, where he was a classmate of Robert E. Lee.

George Washington Browning married Margaret's sister, Flora, and the two young families traveled together to Texas. The Brownings were also first settlers. The two young men signed a letter to Stephen Austin asking for troops to protect the settlers from the Kickapoos (1836). This was about the time that Cynthia Ann Parker was kidnapped.

If anyone has any knowledge of these families, I would like to be in touch with you.
