Cecil West

Services for Cecil Clarence West, 89, of Palestine will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Court Drive Church of Christ with Glen Cogburn of Tyler and Danny Sidders of Palestine officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery under the direction Herrington/Land of Memory.

Mr. West departed the earth on Saturday afternoon from his home.

He was born July 28, 1914 in Montalba to Thomas J and Ona West.

In May 1972, Mr. West retired from Exxon after 37 years of service and returned home to Palestine.

His retirement years were filled with beekeeping, gardening, woodworking and many civic activities, but the most important time to him was devoted service to God and his family.

Mr. West is survived by he devoted wife of 67 years, Louise; daughter, Kathryn of Palestine; son, Bob and wife Emily of Palestine; sister, Ruby and husband Eldred Smith of Longview; granddaughters, Marie and husband James Hoke of McKinney and Katie and husband Walter Presley of Austin; grandsons, Robert and wife Jennifer of Waco, and Jefferson of Palestine; great-granddaughter, Madelynn of Waco; great-grandson Kyler of Waco; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Robert and Jefferson West, James Hoke, Howard Gambrell, Melvin Gambrell and Kenneth Gambrell.

Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Pickle, Monroe Kelley, Archie Waldrum, Dan Stoldt, Jess Stringham, Jimmy Cook, Mike Wilkinson, Dean French, Ken Brewer, Bill Brewer, J.L. Parkman and Dale Sparks.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Court Drive Church of Christ Food Bank or a charity of choice.

Louise West

Services for Louise Mary West, 89, of Palestine will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Herrington/Land of Memory Chapel with Danny Sidders officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery.

Mrs. West died Wednesday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.

She was born Dec. 25, 1915, in Pert to Floyd D. and Lena Elizabeth Rhodes Evans.

Mrs. West was a graduate of Neches High School. She and her husband, Cecil West, retired to Palestine in 1972. Mrs. West was a very involved and active member of Court Drive Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil West, in January 2004.

Mrs. West is survived by her son, Bob West and wife Emily; daughter, Kathryn West, all of Palestine; four grandchildren, Marie Hoke and husband James of McKinney, Robert West and wife Jennifer of Waco, Katie West of Houston and Jefferson West of Palestine; and three great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Kyler and Masyn.

Pallbearers will be Melvin Gambrell, Howard Gambrell, Kenneth Gambrell, Robert West, Jefferson West and James Hoke. Honorary pallbearers will be elders of Court Drive Church of Christ and Peyton Sidders.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Court Drive Church of Christ Food Bank or a charity of choice.
