Hershel was the only Alabama ancestor of my son's (through my wife) apparently who served in the Civil War or at least in an Alabama regiment. Among my son's ancestors are:
Calvin M. Arnold 1st Lt. 13th TN Cavalry USA
Arthur Avra, private Independent Battalion of the Georgia
Militia, 1197 District, CSA (lived Quitman Co. GA)
James Patterson Cockerham Cpl, 10th TN Cavalry, USA
Hershel V. Glenn, private 15th Alabama CSA
Samuel Jones, private 37th North Carolina Infantry
Whitfield Monroe Parker, private 63rd Virginia Infantry CSA
John Calvin Rouse, private served in both 48th Virginia CSA and 3rd North Carolina Infantry USA
Elihu Weaver Cpl, 5th North Carolina Cavalry CSA
James Ratliff Whaley, private 51st Georgia CSA (lived in Dale County, Alabama)
I'd like to find some more, but I think this is about the entire crop. The rest of the potential male ancestors were generally just not the right ages for the war.
If any of these units is of interest, I'd be happy to swap info. I've recently been studying the retreat of the Army of Tennessee after the battle at Nashville, since I live near the exit road (Franklin Pike)and both Cockerham and Parker were here at the time.
