Tweedy of Rutherford County, TN
Sometimes, one has to go on nothing but a proponderance of information to arrive at a conclusion concerning genealogy. I am prepared to make such a claim ... Elizabeth W. Tweedy, daughter of Joseph Tweedy and Mary Elizabeth Franklin, was the first wife of James B. Connelly - born in Philadelphia and lived his adult life in Nashville, Tennessee ... Elizabeth was born probably around 1800 in VA - She died 7 Jul 1849 and is buried in the old City Cemetery in Nashville ... The reason I am not 100% positive is the lack of records - Elizabeth's death prior to the 1850 census eliminates any listing of her name in the James Connelly household.James remarried in 1850.There are only two documents that make me believe she was James' wife.(1) - marriage in Davidson County between a James B. Connelly and Elizabeth W. Tweedy on 12 Mar 1818 and (2) the data base of burials in the City Cemetery which shows a "Mrs. E. Connelly, wife of J. B. Connelly. Then, 21 years later, the listing of the burial of J.B. Connelly age 82 in the same general vicinity of the final resting place of "Mrs E. Connelly" (also, there are two daughters who were buried in the same general vicinity who are identified as "daughters of J. B. Connelly ...
Finally, there is one other major clue ... My great grandmother (who was a Warren that married a grandson of James B. and Elizabeth Tweedy Connelly) talked to my mother and one of her cousins when they were young about the "Dinwiddie family of VA." ... Today when I told this elderly cousin about the name "Tweedy" - He responded, "I suspect that is what "Muh" was saying "Twiddy" or "Tweedy", and not Dinwiddie"
Is genealogy research fun or what????
