John F. Tuttle married Ada Ann Littlefield about 1860, probably in Alfred, York, Maine. They appeared on the 1860 Durham, New Hampshire census in the household of Orlando and Mary D. [Littlefield] Gerrish. On the 1860 census, John was listed as John Jr. Albert Littlefield Tuttle was born 8 July 1864 in Stratham, New Hampshire and his sister Anna L. [Littlefield?] was born 7 Jan 1868, also in Stratham [source: Alvah Tuttle's book on the Tuttle, Tuthill Lines in America]. John F. Tuttle also appeared on the 1870 Stratham, New Hampshire census. John died shortly thereafter and Ada remarried [15 June 1875] to Thomas E. Ridlon [27 Feb 1825- 28 June 1910, Alfred, York, Maine; buried in Evergreen Cemetery along with wife Ada, who died 6 Feb 1895, Alfred, Maine]. Thomas and Ada Ridlon appear on the 1880 Alfred, Maine census along with her children Albert and Anna Tuttle.
John F. appears to be born about 1840 in perhaps Stratham, New Hampshire. Some other researchers indicate that he was the son of Thomas Tuttle of Wallace Bay, Nova Scotia [born June 1810, Cumberland County, Nova Scotia; died about 1858 at Wallace Bay. Alva Tuttle indicates that John Tuttle, son of Thomas, died unmarried in 1921 at Wallace Bay. Ada Ann Littlefield [1841- 1895] was the daughter of Lyman and Mary S. Littlefield. They were on the 1850 Alfred, York Maine census. Alva Tuttle indicates Thomas Tuttle was the son of John Tuttle [29 Dec 1787, Morristown, New Jersey; died 1835 in Wallace Bay, Cumberland, Nova Scotia]. Much of the Canadian genealogy came from a book "Valley of the Remsheg, A History of Wallace Bay and a genealogical record of the descendants of six founding families" by Harry R. Brown.
