In the early 1920's, two attorneys from London came to rural MS looking for descendants of Owen TUTOR, ca 1774 Wales, ca 1850 Cumberland Co., NC. Among the people they spoke with was my ancestor, Quella TUTOR McCord, a direct descendant. An inheritance was at stake; benefactor, title and amount unknown. Because there was no tangible proof of records, inheritance was denied. It is thought that Owen Tutor and perhaps his family before him, changed original surname from TUDOR to Tutor. I have (some) details of this incident on audio tape recorded with my ancestor Lula McCord Whitworth, and testimony of others who were children at the time of this incident. If you have any knowledge about this family story, please contact me. Phyllis Hodum in Collierville, TN.
