WHERE TO START - Tuthill search
I am coming to this search of my family name knowing next to nothing. My direct Tuthill predescesors are from Hawley, Pa.(circa 1850??) although it is rumored that this was a tract of land given to them prior to the revolutionary war.I presume they landed in Long Island, NY.I had supposed we were from Cornwall as I know of a Tuthill Manor which was excavated there in the 1960's.
The name Tuthill, is similar to several place names in the UK; In Wales, there is a small hamlet/village named Twdil (which is pronounced "Too-dill" near Caernarfon.Tot hyll may mean "Prominent Hill" although it MAY also refer to an occupation (horn playing)
My father has traced his family as best he can from the generation of his greatgrandmother, but I want very much to go back "across the pond" with my search.
I would really appreciate some help in finding a starting place!
Siwsan (The Welsh spelling of Susan)
