In reply to both of your messages. I'm the one who emailed you directly last week. I scanned the letter and transcribed it (as best I could!). I sent you those files last week. Please let me know if you didn't receive them.
I'm descended from Absolum Green Tuten. My George Washington Tuten was from Beaufort District, SC.
My line is James Clary, Martha Susan Tuten Clary, George Washington Tuten, Jr., George Washington Tuten, Absolum Green Tuten, ?
According to early work shared with us by Mary Ketus Holland and Allen Vernan Tuten, Absolum Green Tuten was born in 1785 and arrived in Furman, Beaufort District, SC about 1800. He had a brother in the same area, Redding Cannon Tuten. Absolum married Charity Ann Mixon. They had six children:
1. George Washington Tuten b. 1807 m. Martha Cook (1), m. Hannah Martha Deloach (2), m. Martha Pope (3)
2. Absolum Green Tuten II b. 1816
3. Martha A Tuten b. 1820
4. Mary Elizabeth Tuten b. 1824
5. Catherine Ann Tuten b. 1831
6. Susan Carnelia Tuten b. 1833
The letter was sent to George Sr.; the one that was carrying out his predestination by marrying all Marthas!
The Billy that I'm searching for is one of his sons, brother to my ggrandfather George Washington Tuten, Jr. (Washy). In Mary Ketus Holland's work he is listed as Billy, but in the letters that I have he signs himself Wm. G. Tuten.
So, since Rachel and her husband William P. Tuten relocated from this area to FL (correct me if I'm wrong)...Is William P. another brother or a cousin of Absolum Green Tuten and Redding Cannon Tuten?
These names become like a tessellating puzzle don't they? Sometimes I kindof wish the first president's influence wasn't so strong. BTW, our line has four generations of George Washington Tutens!
Thanks for all of your help,
