My father used to tell me that he had heard rumoured in the family that the name Tuten was German. I've never found it in any encyclopedias or books. I thought it might be German from Teutonic origins, but nothing which could substantiate it. A photo sent to me of my father showed a striking resemblance to someone who could have been Polish or Jewish. But I really don't know.
